In an unprecedented move, the General Directorate of Traffic in Saudi Arabia has rolled out a groundbreaking royal directive, slashing accumulated traffic fines by a staggering 50%. Effective immediately from April 18th, this initiative, spearheaded by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, aims to alleviate the financial burden on all residents and visitors.

Under this directive, all traffic violations incurred prior to April 18, 2024, are eligible for the 50% reduction. However, to benefit from this generous offer, fines must be settled within a six-month window, running from April 18th to October 18th, 2024. Whether settling fines in one lump sum or individually for each violation, the discount applies across the board.

This move marks a significant relief for citizens, expatriates, visitors, and GCC nationals alike, as it eases penalties for violations recorded up to the day before the reduction period commenced.

Nevertheless, it's crucial to note that the royal decree excludes certain egregious violations. Offenders caught engaging in drifting, driving under the influence of drugs or banned substances, or exceeding speed limits by significant margins risk disqualification from the discount. Specifically, exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on roads with a 120 km/h limit, or by more than 30 km/h on roads with a 140 km/h limit, will nullify eligibility for the reduction.

Enforcing article 75 of the Traffic Law, violations committed from April 18th onwards will still benefit from a 25% reduction on individual fines. However, failure to settle fines within the designated period may result in imprisonment and enforcement measures.

To streamline the payment process, the General Directorate of Traffic has integrated automatic payment options via the SADAD payment system and the Efaa platform. In light of potential scams, the directorate advises against engaging with suspicious links, phone calls, or websites claiming to offer similar services.

In conclusion, this historic initiative not only demonstrates the Saudi government's commitment to promoting road safety but also reflects its dedication to supporting its residents and visitors during challenging times.
