The town of Bisha in the southern Saudi province of Asir is famous for its agriculture and its bountiful date palms, lemon trees and vineyards, as well as a wide assortment of trees such as Sidr, Talh and Samr.
Bisha, which is located in the southwestern region of the Kingdom, is known for its valleys and the fertility of its soil.
With renewed efforts, the general doctorate of agriculture has been trying to rehabilitate the area to improve its crop by working with the best agriculture specialists to assure that palm trees will not be infected with parasites, like termites, that might kill the harvest.
Salem Al-Qarni, the director of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Water, stated that the produce from the area is free from all pesticides and is organic. He assured that all farmers are taking the right precautions to allow for the best fruitage to grow and for the palm trees to diversify.
For irrigation, the farmers of Bisha rely on rainwater that flows down the western and southern ranges across the Sira mountains. The ministry has constructed four major dams to harvest rainwater and ensure the long-term stability of the agriculture sector.
The governorate of Bisha has devoted much of its time and resources to ensure that produce from the region, such as honey and dates, are available and sold worldwide.
