Abadi Al-Johar, Saudi Musician
Category: Information

Abadi Al-Johar is a Saudi musician, singer and composer. One of the most popular Khaleeji singers in the Gulf, he has composed around 50 albums since he began his musical career in 1968.

He earned the title Ikhtabout Al-Oud (Octopus of the Oud) from the late Talal Maddah because of his unmatchable oud playing. Al-Johar is known for his own compositions and hits such as “Awazel” and “Eyaunek.”

He has worked with a number of top Arab pop stars including Maddah, Assala Nasri, Samira Said, Abbas Ibrahim and Aseel Omran.

Al-Johar is also a member of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts. He has won a number of awards, including an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Arts in Egypt, the Best Khaleeji Musician Award from Egypt, and the Golden Oud from Rotana.

The “Lailat Abadiyat” concert took place at the Abu Bakr Salem stage in Riyadh Boulevard on Friday as part of Riyadh Winter Season to honor Al-Johar.

He performed some of his most famous older songs, which were applauded by the 6,000 attendees.

Turki Al Sheikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority, could not be physically present at the concert, but passed on his regards by phone.

“Welcome everyone on this beautiful night. I wish to be with you tonight, but I’m with you by heart,” he said.

“The artist Abadi Al-Johar is very dear ... We’re proud to have you (Al-Johar) today on the night of your celebration.”
