Domestic Worker Abuse Is A Crime Of Human Trafficking, And This Is The Punishment
Category: Expats

Mohammed Al-Masry, Secretary General of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Committee, warned that abuse of domestic workers is considered a crime of trafficking in persons, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of 1 million riyals.

On the Al-Ekhbariya channel, Al-Masry hosted the 120 program, which gives the number of domestic workers in the Kingdom. He also discussed all relevant regulations for combating human trafficking.

A common crime of trafficking in persons is forced labor, he added, highlighting that employers are subject to the above penalties whenever the elements of this crime are present, along with the intent to misuse one of the forms of trafficking in persons.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development's dispute resolution committees issued legal rulings and imposed penalties against violators earlier this month.

The decisions require the imposition of penalties against people who violate the list of domestic service workers. Domestic workers who worked in commercial activities were also penalized, as the Labor Law prohibits the employment of domestic workers in commercial activities.

- According to the Labor Law, a non-Saudi may not engage in work except after receiving a work permit from the Ministry, using the form it prepares for this purpose.
