Arab Parliament Speaker Dr. Mishaal Al-Salami submitted two draft resolutions on Yemen to its legislative, legal and human rights committee at its meeting on Tuesday in Cairo. The drafts will be submitted to the Arab Parliament’s plenary session on Wednesday for approval.

The first draft resolution denounces a report on Yemen by the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights, said Al-Salami.

The report is inaccurate and biased because it ignores documented and systematic violations by the Iran-backed Houthi militia and its supporters in Yemen, he added.

The second draft resolution praises the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen (MASAM), launched by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), said Al-Salami.

It also urges the UN to help demine Yemen, and condemns the Houthis for laying internationally banned landmines indiscriminately, he added.

MASAM “complements the efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia to clear Yemeni land of mines and train Yemeni cadres on demining techniques,” he said.

The second draft resolution urges the UN secretary-general, the president of the UN Security Council (UNSC), the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other concerned organizations to support MASAM, condemn the Houthis and expose their crimes to the world, Al-Salami said. He called on the UNSC to take necessary measures to force Iran to stop arming the Houthis.
