THE Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has offered free eye treatment to 9,694 patients in the country.
The care was funded by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation.
According to the Saudi Arabian envoy to Nigeria, Ambassador Adnan Bostaji, free health care was meant to strengthen and enhance the excellent historical ties between the two countries.
Bostaji, in a statement in Abuja, said: “At the conclusion of the works of the volunteer medical campaign by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to combat blindness and its causes in Ibadan, Oyo State, funded by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation, the following have been achieved:
“About 8000 patients were diagnosed and treated. Medicines were given to them. Six hundred and ninety-four surgeries were done to remove cataract and glaucoma, alongside other minor surgical operations.
“More than one thousand reading glasses were distributed to patients. The surgery operations were done by a number of consultants, surgeons, and ophthalmologists.
“This campaign comes to strengthen and enhance the excellent historical ties between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which are based on friendliness and mutual cooperation.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude and thanks to Nigerian authorities, comprising of the Government and the private sector, for their cooperation with the organizers of this campaign and for making their task successful, as well as for accomplishing the campaign’s humanitarian goals.”
