Music Will Be Taught In Saudi Arabian Schools
Category: Education

A government official said music will be included in Saudi Arabia's curricula in two years, starting from kindergarten.

Sultan Al Bazie, the acting CEO of the Music Commission, told Al Arabiya television that music can be taught in schools within two years.

Mohammed bin Salman has advocated massive reforms in Saudi Arabia in recent years, which have led to dramatic socio-economic changes.

As part of the Saudi Culture Ministry, the Music Commission was established in February 2020 to oversee the development of a music sector that provides non-discriminatory access to music education, empowers musical talent, and contributes to local economies.

Music will be taught to pupils as an extracurricular activity via the e-platform "Madrasty", according to Al Bazie.

The first stage of teaching music in schools will begin soon, he said.

According to him, the ministries of education and culture are involved in studies to qualify teachers and develop syllabuses.

A series of star-studded concerts, stage shows, and festivals have been held since Saudi Arabia established the General Entertainment Authority in 2016.

For the first time in nearly four decades, Saudi Arabia reopened cinemas in April 2018.
