In Saudi Arabia, the Council of Health Insurance (CHI) announced the start of the implementation of the new insurance policy, including the activation of the benefits package and updated insurance coverage limits.
A new document was implemented on October 1st, along with a new benefit package, updated insurance coverage limits, and a new insurance drug guide, which consists of adding new benefits with the aim of protecting beneficiaries, reducing complications from diseases, and making the services easier to access.
- The new policy is to enhance quality, efficiency and develop local content, in addition to the updated document adopted after an extensive study with the participation of all stakeholders, during which several workshops were held during which all parties to the insurance relationship participated, including insurance companies, health service providers and employers, to discuss what the Council observed about health insurance beneficiaries' needs.
A spokesman for the Council of Health Insurance, Dr. Nasser Al-Juhani, Executive Director of Empowerment and Supervision, said the introduction of the benefits package, updated insurance coverage limits, and the insurance drug guide will significantly improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work.
- Al-Juhani revealed that the updated document included improvements in a number of benefits during the previous period, including the inclusion of kidney transplantation and coverage of some preventive services, such as period and exploratory tests, including early screening for breast cancer, colon cancer and diabetes tests.
Additionally, he explained that the amendments to the coverage limits included increasing the upper limit for coverage of mental health cases, raising the upper limit for dialysis cases, as well as raising the coverage limit for major companies' policies to 1 million riyals. He concluded his speech by stating that these updates are intended to help achieve many of the most important objectives, including improving beneficiaries' health and ensuring effective insurance coverage.
