Saudi Arabia has arrested over 13,500 illegal residents during a sweeping week-long campaign targeting violations of residency, labor, and border laws, the Ministry of Interior confirmed on Saturday.
Breakdown of Arrests
Between June 19 and June 25, a total of 13,532 individuals were detained, including:
- 7,903 for violating Residency Law
- 3,744 for breaching Border Security regulations
- 1,885 for Labor Law violations
The campaign was part of a coordinated inspection drive led by security forces in collaboration with multiple Saudi government agencies.
Deportations and Legal Processing
Out of the total detained individuals:
- 9,479 were deported
- 6,225 referred to embassies for travel document processing
- 2,072 were transferred to finalize departure arrangements
Currently, 11,908 people remain in custody, including 10,783 men and 1,125 women, pending legal proceedings and possible deportation.
Illegal Border Crossings
The Ministry reported that 1,892 individuals were apprehended while attempting to cross Saudi Arabia’s borders illegally. Among them:
- 67% were Ethiopian nationals
- 31% were Yemeni nationals
- 2% were from other nationalities
Crackdown on Facilitators
A total of 17 individuals were arrested for facilitating illegal residency. They were accused of providing shelter, transportation, or employment to violators.
Severe Penalties for Violators
The Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning to anyone found aiding illegal residents. Penalties include:
- Prison term of up to 15 years
- Fines of up to 1 million Saudi Riyals
- Confiscation of vehicles or properties used in the offense
Authorities urge citizens and residents to report any suspicious activities via official channels.
