Saudi Arabia Bans Peanut Products In Primary Schools
Category: Education

According to a local newspaper, Saudi Arabia's education authorities have banned peanut products from school canteens on health grounds.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority and the Health Ministry endorsed health recommendations for school food items in a circular issued by the Education Ministry, news portal Ajel reported, citing unidentified sources.

These recommendations ban the sale of all peanut products at canteens of the primary school stage because they pose health perils to sufferers of the peanut allergy.

The ministry's circular points out that schoolchildren suffering from this type of allergy at this stage may not be able to differentiate products containing peanuts or be aware of the dangers resulting from eating them like students in intermediate and secondary education.
