Abdul Aziz Al-Khayal, vice-president of the Human Rights Commission, has said that Saudi Arabia is keen to provide the best healthcare to all citizens and residents through an integrated network in a fair and easy way.
"This keenness is grounded in the principles of Islamic Shariah as well as regional and international human rights agreements. The Kingdom has also reflected this in its plans and policies, the most prominent of which is Vision 2030," he said on Thursday while addressing a symposium organized by HRC at its Riyadh headquarters.
On the occasion of Arab Human Rights Day 2022, the symposium focused on the right to a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment.
Al-Khayal noted that Arab Human Rights Day is an important occasion for us to recall the importance of these rights and the need to protect, enhance, and empower them so that people can enjoy them. During his speech, he emphasized the Kingdom's accomplishments in promoting and enforcing human rights and the qualitative reforms that have been achieved in this regard.
Also mentioned by the HRC official were the rules and laws enacted by the state regarding public health and providing healthcare for all citizens and residents through an integrated network that is easily accessible and fair in order to preserve and protect the environment.
Members of the HRC and representatives of several ministries, government agencies, and civil society organizations attended the event. Six major areas of the symposium discussed the Kingdom's efforts to deal with the challenges of climate change and to harmonize environmental policies and legislation with human rights.
Furthermore, the role of municipalities and mayoralties in promoting health and the protection of the environment, sustainable development goals and human rights, as well as the role of civil society institutions in protecting the environment, were discussed.
