The Civil Defense successfully extinguished a major fire that occurred at Jeddah's Al-Sawarikh Market for the second time in over a week. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Emergency teams from the Civil Defense swiftly responded to the fire after receiving a report through the security operations room (911). They effectively contained the flames, preventing further damage to nearby shops and markets. The fire was brought under control within hours, and no injuries were sustained.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The Civil Defense, in collaboration with relevant authorities, has initiated an investigation to identify the root cause. A specialized team is examining the origin of the fire, checking for the presence of flammable materials and petroleum, as well as assessing the electrical installations.
Notably, the first fire on May 12 resulted in the destruction of all stalls in the new Rahmaniyah souk within Al-Sawarikh Market. The market, commonly referred to as Harraj, is renowned for its wide range of affordable goods compared to city shopping malls. It features over 100 shops offering clothing, electrical and sanitary appliances, household items, kitchenware, furnishings, and various food products. Numerous vendors sell their goods outdoors, particularly along the pavements.
