In Saudi Arabia, the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) revealed the legal penalties for violating self-employed expats or those working for their own accounts.
An expat who works for his own account or as a self-employed person will face three penalties, according to Saudi Jawazat's official Twitter account.
1. A fine of up to 50,000 Saudi Riyals.
2. Jail term for a period of up to 6 months.
3. Deportation of an expatriate.
Saudi Arabia's Jawazat called on everyone to report violations of Residency and Border Security regulations by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province and 999 elsewhere.
Fine and Imprisonment for the Employer :
A few days ago, Jawazat confirmed that an employer who leaves his workers to work on their own accounts or for money they pay to him (in the name of Azad Visa or Free Visa). For the second offense, employers will be fined 20,000 riyals and imprisoned for 2 months, and for the third offense, 50,000 riyals and three months in jail.
- The fine will be multiplied by the number of workers against whom the violation has been recorded, and the violating expat will be deported at his own expense, as well as being denied employment for a period not less than one year the first time, two years the second, and three years the third.
- In case a resident expat works for a non-employer or works for his own account will be deported to his country and an expat worker employs another expat worker for the benefit of an employer other than the original employer, if the employer is expat, he shall be punished 5,000 riyals for the first time or imprisonment for a period of 1 month or both together, for the second time, fine is 10,000 riyals or with jail term of one month or both and for the third time, a fine of 20,000 riyals or jail term for 3 months or both.
