Category: Coronavirus

A new centre offering vaccination against COVID-19 has gone operational in the holy city of Mecca, expanding the availability of inoculation in the kingdom.

The latest centre at the Umm Al Qura University has been listed by the Saudi Health Ministry among the options available at the smart app Sehaty to reserve an appointment to get the jabs against the highly infectious ailment.

The official website of the Mecca region has displayed images of people receiving the shots at the centre.

In December, Saudi Arabia began its largest vaccination campaign against COVID-19 after receiving batches of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The kingdom has already set up four inoculation facilities in Riyadh, Jeddah, the Eastern Province and the Medina.

Saudi authorities have said the vaccine is provided for free for citizens and foreign residents.

Around 462, 812 people so far have received the jabs, according to a Health Ministry spokesman.

The kingdom so far has registered a total of 373,368 coronavirus cases and 6,441 related deaths.
