SPA reported that Saudi Border Guards rescued the crew of a Panamanian-flagged tanker that caught fire 123 nautical miles northwest of Jazan port.
The Jeddah Search and Rescue Coordination Center (JMRCC) received a Mayday signal from the fire-stricken tanker, according to Colonel Misfr Al Qarini of the Border Guards.
Upon determining the location of the vessel, the center notified the command-and-control center in Jazan and relevant authorities for assistance, the spokesman said.
Al Qarini confirmed that 25 sailors of multiple nationalities were evacuated to the port of Jazan by the ship's crew.
Medical teams from Border Guards, health affairs, the Red Crescent, civil defense, and passports in the region received them.
With the assistance of a foreign ship, the Border Guard vessel Rafha conducted the rescue mission. All the crew members were reported to be in good health and were transferred to their residences while proper procedures were being followed.
