A remarkable event unfolded in the skies of Saudi Arabia as a Bangladeshi traveler gave birth to a baby during a domestic flight.
In her thirties, the woman was aboard a Saudia plane traveling from Tabuk in the northwest to Jeddah when she unexpectedly went into labor at an altitude of 36,000 feet. She promptly sought assistance from the flight crew.
Among the passengers were two football teams escorted by doctors, who, with the help of a fellow traveler who translated medical instructions, successfully assisted in the birth. The medical team decided to delay cutting the baby's umbilical cord until they reached the airport to ensure comprehensive medical support.
The King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah received reports from the air control tower about the in-flight delivery, prompting the aircraft to land swiftly at the nearest gate to provide the necessary emergency medical aid to the mother.
Dedicated Saudi female medics with expertise in emergency situations were dispatched to offer essential services to the mother and her newborn daughter. After ensuring their stability, they were transferred to a local hospital for further care.
This year, King Abdulaziz Airport achieved a significant milestone by deploying women medics to handle emergencies, marking a positive step towards empowering women in various fields across Saudi Arabia.
