The Iranian government has taken a historic step by abolishing visa requirements for citizens from 33 countries, including Saudi Arabia, in a move aimed at fostering international relations and promoting tourism. Ezzatollah Zarghami, the Minister of Tourism, expressed the government's commitment to embracing a global audience, stating, "The Islamic Republic has shown its readiness to open doors to people worldwide and provide more facilities for them so that they can easily visit our country and benefit from its advantages."
This groundbreaking decision expands the list of countries whose citizens can travel to Iran without obtaining a visa to 45, according to the semi-official news agency ISNA. The Ministry of Tourism emphasizes that an open-door policy reflects Iran's determination to engage with nations worldwide. Notably, citizens from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and other nations are now included in the visa waiver program.
The full list of countries benefiting from this policy includes Lebanon, Tunisia, India, as well as several Central Asian, African, and Muslim nations. Croatia, a Western-allied European nation and a member of the EU and NATO, is the sole representative from this region. ISNA notes that Russians will enjoy visa exemption only when visiting Iran in groups.
This move signifies a positive development in the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as evident in the upcoming regular travel of Iranian Umrah pilgrims to Saudi Arabia starting December 19. This marks the first time in eight years and follows the restoration of full diplomatic relations between the two nations, which were severed in 2016. The agreement, mediated by China in March of this year, underlines a significant thawing of tensions between the neighboring countries.
For travelers and businesses in Saudi Arabia and the other 32 countries, this visa waiver presents a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and natural beauty that Iran has to offer. Plan your visit today and experience the hospitality of a nation opening its doors to the world.
