The labor court in Riyadh received the head of the national labor committee and a delegation from the International Trade Union Confederation, headed by its general secretary, Sharan Burrow.

The delegation toured the court, and was introduced to its digitized processes. They visited the clients’ services office, the unified translation center and the labor research office. The delegation discussed with court staff its role in raising legal awareness and the rights of both employers and workers.

Burrow said she was impressed by the workflow inside the court and how it created ease for clients.

“The court has a strong technology base that allows transparency, which is very impressive. The link with enforcement courts is also critical and few countries have that capability,” Burrow said.

The Ministry of Justice announced that over 86,000 sessions have been held since the labor courts were established in November last year, with nearly 524 daily sessions held across the Kingdom.

Riyadh stands first with 27,953 sessions, followed by Makkah at 17,721. Settlements should be finalized within 20 days, but if this is not achieved then they are electronically processed to the court through the Labor Ministry.

Labor courts in Saudi Arabia were launched in November 2018 as part of legal reforms. The courts aim to optimize the use of technology to boost legal services.
