Saudi Arabia Confirms Three-Term School Year With 8-Week Summer Vacation
Category: Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Cabinet has approved the academic calendar framework for public education, higher education, and technical and vocational training for the next five years, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Saudi Ministry of Education has issued the academic calendar for the upcoming school year, continuing the three-term system in public education.

The ministry will decide on the most suitable system—whether two or three academic terms—for the remaining four years at the end of each academic year, ensuring no less than 180 instructional days. For the upcoming academic year, there will be an 8-week summer vacation. The first term starts on Sunday, August 18, 2024, the second term on Sunday, November 17, 2024, and the third term on Sunday, March 2, 2025, ending on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

Vacations for the upcoming academic year include National Day, long weekends, autumn break, mid-year break, Foundation Day break, winter break, Eid Al-Fitr break, and Eid Al-Adha break.

The regulations allow government and private universities, the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training, foreign and private schools, Saudi schools abroad, and community schools to develop their academic calendar according to the Ministry of Education's guidelines while maintaining the approved timeframe for the five academic years. This approach positively impacts the educational process.
