Key Provisions for Worker Leave and Compensation

Payment for Unused Leave upon Resignation

Saudi Arabia’s labour laws ensure that employees are entitled to compensation for unused leave if they resign before taking it.

Annual Paid Hajj Leave

Employees can avail themselves of a 10-15 day paid leave for performing the Hajj pilgrimage. Conditions include:

  • Minimum two years of service with the same employer.
  • Leave granted at the employer’s discretion based on workforce requirements.

Paid Leave for Family Events

Workers are entitled to the following fully paid leaves:

  • Marriage Leave: 5 days.
  • Bereavement Leave: 5 days for the death of a spouse or direct family members, including parents, grandparents, children, or grandchildren.

Labour Reforms and Enhancements

Notice Period for Contract Termination

The notice period for terminating a contract has been set as follows:

  • 30 days' notice for workers.
  • 60 days' notice for employers.

Improved Maternity Leave and Trial Work Period

Key reforms include:

  • Maternity leave extended to 12 weeks (up from 10 weeks).
  • Trial work period capped at 180 days.
