Saudi environmental police have arrested two people for allegedly violating hunting codes inside royal nature reserves in the capital Riyadh, according to an official.

One of the violators, caught in possession of an unlicensed air rifle, had hunted 22 birds in the Royal King Khaled Reserve, Major Raed Al Maliki spokesman for the Special Forces for Environmental Security said.

Another person was stopped while hunting in the Royal King Abdulaziz Reserve. The offender had in his possession two air rifles and had hunted 12 birds, Al Maliki added.

The seized air rifles were confiscated and legal procedures were taken against them for illegal hunting.

The official called on citizens and expatriates to abide by environmental laws. “There will be no laxity in taking and applying the stipulated penalties against violators of environmental regulations,” he added.
